I’m Heather Tierney, an Occupational Therapist and a Positive Approach to Care® (PAC) Certified Independent Consultant and Trainer with over 25 years of experience working with adults and older adults.
Throughout my career, I’ve been deeply passionate about helping older adults feel respected, valued, and empowered -especially when life brings unexpected challenges. My work is rooted in compassion, adaptability, and a person-centered approach. I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside individuals from all walks of life, learning from their stories, struggles, and resilience. These experiences have shaped the way I connect, listen, and guide.
Growing up with my grandmother gave me a soft spot for the aging journey. I witnessed firsthand the desire to maintain independence, discover new purpose, and be seen for a lifetime of wisdom. That early connection planted the seed for my lifelong dedication to supporting older adults with empathy and dignity.
My passion for dementia care began to take shape as I noticed the impact I was making with families during my occupational therapy sessions. When I would first meet caregivers, I could see that the exhaustion, fear and limited understanding of brain change was taking it’s toll on them. As their understanding of brain change deepened, a noticeable calm would begin to replace the confusion and frustration. For the first time, what they’d been living through was starting to make sense. As they began to understand the why behind the changes, they discovered how transformative the right support and strategies could be. I loved seeing them empowered with new tools and perspective and I found myself wanting to do more.
That calling led me to dive deeper into dementia education and ultimately launch Senior Moments Consulting, LLC. Through my consulting, training, and community work, my goal is simple: to help families, professionals, and communities better understand dementia and respond with knowledge, grace, and compassion.
